Dear members,
I am proud to say that 2016 was our busiest year yet at the GCC BDI. We have grown our numbers by over 25 per cent and added 200 alumni to our region-wide network, which means there’s even more peers for you to meet in 2017.
This year we rolled out over 20 well attended programmes and events, from the Foundations of Directorship, to Mastering the Boardroom and the Role of the Board Secretary. Take a look at the GCC BDI Review of 2016 to see just how busy we’ve been! Thank you to all of you who attended our events far and wide, from London, to Saudi Arabia, to Bahrain and the UAE – for it is your lively debate, professionalism and knowledge that also makes our events possible.
GCC BDI’s Director Development Program is designed to broaden and deepen director education within a professional framework. New workshops are being introduced so that participants can choose, at each level of development, how to enrich their knowledge and expertise. We will be running workshops in Riyadh, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain in the coming months.
Mohammed Al-Shroogi is the chairman of the GCC BDI and the co-chief executive officer of the global investment group, Investcorp. Prior to this, Al-Shroogi enjoyed a 30-year career with Citigroup in Bahrain, London and the UAE. He holds a BA in Commerce from Kuwait University and attended the Executive Program at Harvard Business School.
In this rare interview, Al-Shroogi offers his thoughts on how better boards will improve the region’s future.
It’s now been several years since the global financial crisis, but the pressure on boards and directors to raise their game remains considerable.
According to a survey of more than 770 global directors, there are dramatic differences in how directors allocate their time across functions and this has a direct bearing on the perceived effectiveness of the board.
GCC BDI invites you to take part in the region’s first board directors’ remuneration survey.
GCC BDI, in collaboration with Heidrick and Struggles, is pleased to invite your organisation to participate in our survey on regional board directors’ remuneration.
