Dear members,
I write to you as we close one of the busiest years in the history of GCC BDI. As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, I’m pleased to say that we’ve now enrolled 1,000 members and conducted over 100 workshops helping to raise corporate standards and board directors education across the region.
This issue of the newsletter is dedicated to ‘board evaluation’ and techniques for measuring the effectiveness of the your board. This month, we bring you exclusive interviews from board members at SABIC, Saudi Aramco and Saudi Telecom Company.

The Board of Directors is the most important governing body within a company but until very recently the process of evaluating the board, its committees and the individual directors has not been regarded by either chairmen or directors as a board priority.
Dr. Abdullah Al Abdulqader has been chairman of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) since May 2015. When not running the Kingdom’s largest telecoms business, Dr. Al Abdulqader is also Head of the Advisory Committee of the Capital Market Authority and a member of the Quality Assurance Committee in the Organization for Certified Public Accountants.
Dr. AlAbdulqader previously worked as a professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. The vastly experienced businessman holds a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and a PhD from the University of Colorado, USA.
More than 130 chairmen, board directors and senior executives from around the world convened in Riyadh on Wednesday 1st November, 2017 at the 5th Annual Chairman Summit, organized by the GCC Board Directors Institute (GCC BDI) in collaboration with Morgan Stanley.
